Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association (Public International Organization) was established in 1996 at the initiative of Professor Eduard Izrailevich Galperin. The primary goal of creating the association is to improve the quality of hepatological aid rendered to the population of Russia and CIS Countries through the development of scientifically grounded recommendations and the broad implementation of new proven methods to treat the diseases of liver, pancreas and bile ducts.
At present, the Association has over 500 members, who represent 11 CIS Countries.
The Association annually holds conferences of hepatologists to discuss current issues of HPB surgery. The conference is also attended by professionals from non-CIS countries.
Since 1996, the Association has published the Annals of Surgical Hepatology magazine discussing a wide range of issues related to the surgical treatment of hepatobiliary system diseases. The magazine is included in the list of printed materials recommended by the Higher Attestation Commission of the Russian Federation for publishing the findings of Ph. D. and doctorate theses.
The Association contributes to creating and opening interregional centers for liver, bile duct and pancreas surgery. The establishment of such centers brings qualified state-of-the-art hepatological aid closer to the population of the regions of Russia and other CIS Countries.
